Virginia Advanced Study Strategies, Inc. (VASS) prepares tomorrow's workforce by fostering partnerships and providing services to support student success for advanced study that leads to postsecondary education and credentials needed for careers.
VASS was founded in 2007 as a non-profit educational organization to implement a STEM-focused Advanced Placement program funded by the National Math & Science Initiative and strategic partners. During the six-year project period, VASS provided extensive teacher training and student supports to achieve dramatic increases in enrollment and AP exam scores in over 75 Virginia schools. VASS has garnered 16 million dollars in federal grant awards and an additional 8 million in matching funds to support educational initiatives. Recent signature projects include the Rural Math Excel Partnership and the Rural Math Innovation Network. Both are U.S. Department of Education Investing In Innovation (i3) research and development grants to design and implement innovative models of national significance with potential for large-scale replication.
